20A: Growing your Social Capital

Domain Expert:
1.     Kristen Arthur is a pharmacist at Publix. She studied at the University of Florida and lives right outside of Gainesville.
2.      Kristen Arthur is the domain expert because she knows a lot of medicine and how long it takes to do various prescriptions.
3.      I found Kristen because I also work at Publix which facilitated to communicate with her.
4.     Kristen did me a favor by providing information, but I don’t think she expects anything in return since it was just a short conversation.
5.     Including Kristen in my network will allow me to exploit an opportunity because she could inform her clients about my service which would allow me to reach more customers.
Market Expert:
1.     Madison Hill is a grocery deliverer who is a student at Santa Fe College.
2.     Madison is the market expert because she knows about the delivery service and what customers expect.
3.     I found Madison because I was working at Publix and she was shopping for one of her consumers. She asked me where she could find a specific product that her customer asked for and I found this situation convenient to ask her about Shipt, the grocery delivery she works for.
4.     The favor she did for me was to inform me about how a delivery company works and what customers expect from such. I guess what she expects in return is for me to help her find products at Publix so she can be more efficient.
5.     Including Madison in my network will allow me to make more contacts about the delivery service and how it works to be profitable for the owners and employees.
Supplier:
1.     John Fields is a Trxade support member. Trxade is an online marketplace for pharmacies and other pharmaceutical buyers that provides easy access to pricing from top pharmaceutical suppliers from around the nation. John has been working with Trxade for 2 years now and lives in Tampa, Florida.
2.     John is important because he works for a pharmaceutical supplier company.
3.     I found John because I just looked up on Google “medicine suppliers” and came up with this company. I searched for their number and John responded to my call.
4.     I don’t think John expects anything from me, but he did a favor for me because he provided information about this company.
5.     John could help me exploit an opportunity because he can be a connection to other companies and to the owners of this company.
Final Reflect:

This ‘targeted networking’ was totally different from what I’ve experienced. This assignment allowed me to network with people in different environments. Usually, I network in conventions or conferences, but this type of networking allowed to try different settings and places for networking. This experience will help me to network in different environments.

    I like how you reached out to people within your workplace, I find networking harder in conferences because of how many people attend. Personally I feel the best networking opportunities are people you already know that can give you references to people they know. Especially since they work with you they can really explain what good characteristics you have!
