16A: What's Your Secret Sauce
Human capital that makes me unique
·
Trilingual:
Only 13% of the population speak three languages. I believe this makes me
unique because I can communicate with various people from different places. In
my case, I speak Spanish, English, and French fluently.
·
Fitness: I
considered myself physically fit. I’ve been continuously exercising since I was
15 and I believe that makes me unique because not everyone has the
determination to do it. I believe being physically fit allows to perform almost
any job. Furthermore, exercising improves memory and thinking skills.
·
Competitive:
I am constantly aware of other people’s performance. No matter how hard I
try, no matter how worthy are my intentions, if I reached my goal but did not
outperform others, I would feel like I didn’t try my best.
·
Positivity:
I always try to find the positive in every situation. Despite the
adversities and difficulties, I always
try to see the glass half full.
·
Compassionate:
I feel that I relate well to others. I’m open-minded and understand others’
concerns.
2 Interviews:
·
Benny: My
roommate believes I’m passionate about
whatever I do. He believes that I put 110% of effort to reach my goals. In
addition, he mentions that I don’t give up easily and try to overcome any
adversity that I might encounter.
·
Daniel: My
brother believes I’m stubborn. He thinks whenever I have something in mind, it
is difficult for others to change my thinking or position on something.
Moreover, he believes that sometimes I can be difficult to deal with.
·
Dad: My
dad believes I am a hard worker (just like every parent). He thinks I always try my best to compete with
others. He gave an example when I played soccer in high school. He mentioned
that no matter how bad was the score, I never stop running and trying my best.
·
Mom: My
mom believes that I am always happy. My
mom mentioned that I always try to see the best in every situation. In
addition, she stated that sometimes I get frustrated, but that it doesn’t
affect how I treat others.
·
Alexandro:
One of my best friends that goes to UF with me mentioned that I am a
perfectionist. He said that I like everything to be perfect and that is
annoying sometimes. In addition, he mentioned that I never leave anything
unfinished; I always get it done.
Reflection
· Overall, how I see myself is somewhat similar to how others see me. Although some of these traits are different, some of them overlap with one another. For example, my dad mentioned that I’m a hard worker which is related to being competitive. In addition, some of the differences found are caused by how people perceive me. Individuals, in general, typically tend to portray themselves better than what they actually are. I believe the interviewees are correct about me because sometimes I realize that I can be or act as they described me. I think I would change positivity since I get frustrated sometimes that I don’t always stay positive.
